About Technip

Technip Offshore UK Ltd is one of the leading players in full-service engineering and construction services in the field of hydrocarbons and petrochemicals. It has a workforce of 21,000 and generates annual revenues of approximately 5.4 billion euros. Technip operates nine vessels  situated in Africa, Asia Pacific Brazil and the North Sea.

Technip is a company that is highly committed to the protection of the health and safety of people working in and alongside its business even when this is in conflict with other strategic goals. This commitment has led to significant improvements year on year in all areas of the company's health and safety performance and is enabling it to define and meet standards based on a combination of legal requirements and best practice regardless of where in the world its business is operating and the legislative framework that exists there.

Choosing Sypol

Fundamental to this achievement is Technip's partnership with Sypol which goes back over several years. Sypol undertakes a range of surveys for Technip to help it benchmark and improve its performance in noise management and other occupational health areas.

John Greensmyth, Technip’s safety, health & environmental quality manager comments:

"When it comes to health and safety consultancy in the offshore sector, Sypol certainly fulfils our needs. Their people are happy to work in whichever way suits our varied operations and this co-operative attitude is vital to our successful collaboration."

An integral part of the Technip team

Technip also uses Sypol's COSHH management system CMS. Having established use of the paper based version of this  software solution which manages thousands of COSHH assessments and makes them available to Technip's people globally, in 2005 the company decided to complement this with access to the web based CMS Online. CMS Online provides the same level of information but makes it available electronically to anyone with access to the Internet.

John Greensmyth comments:

"Our guys really like the simple and straightforward way in which Sypol's CMS provides the COSHH related information they need. Having both the paper based and online versions available means that even when our vessels are in places where there are communications blackspots, the data they want is readily available."

In common with all CMS subscribers, Technip also has access to the Sypol helpdesk which is staffed by knowledgeable and experienced experts who can provide answers to questions relating to virtually all aspects of health and safety.

"We have a very good working relationship with Sypol. Whether
its planned training or survey
requirements, adhoc assessments or answers to more obscure questions, they always respond
quickly, professionally and accurately. Their support is invaluable and appreciated.
