This half day course is designed for anyone involved in manual handling activities - lifting, carrying and moving items as part of their work.

  • A review of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended 2004)
  • The typical injuries and their causes
  • An emphasis on the need for risk assessment
  • Considering the task, load, working environment, individual capability and other factors
  • The principles of lifting and movement
  • The guidelines for lifting and lowering, pushing and pulling - good techniques
  • Awareness of typical weights of items found in the workplace, handling bulky items, moving loads etc
  • How manual handling affects you in your workplace by means of questionnaire and group discussion
  • Making best use of lifting and handling aids
