The Workplace Regulations specify general ventilation requirements. COSHH and other specific substance regulations, such as Lead at Work, set compliance requirements for local exhaust ventilation used to control exposures. The Environmental Protection Act has defined the legal duties on those who emit to atmosphere. There are two main uses of ventilation to provide a comfortable and safe workplace:

  • general ventilation, whether mechanical or natural, provides fresh air and dilutes and reduces airborne pollutants
  • when more toxic materials are liable to contaminate the air, arising from a wide variety of industrial processes, local exhaust ventilation is used to capture the pollutants at source. From offices to workshops, there are standards to be met by good design, installation, maintenance and monitoring
We are experienced in helping organisations, large and small, comply with all of the relevant standards in an efficient and cost-effective way.

Our ventilation services include:

  • Investigation of general ventilation systems, including 'Sick Building Syndrome'
  • Measurement and evaluation of local exhaust ventilation systems
  • Development of management plans and record keeping for ventilation systems
  • Exposure monitoring - evaluating the efficacy of ventilation controls
  • Periodic LEV testing, for full compliance with the COSHH Regulations
  • Environmental emission reviews, monitoring and management
  • Training of staff
