The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) addresses the obstacles faced by many disabled people everyday when trying to access goods, services, transport, educational establishments and places of employment.

The legislation came fully into force in October 2004 and defines a disabled person as someone who has "a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day to day activities".

The DDA applies to anyone who employs a disabled person or who provides a service to the general public. You only have to act reasonably; this means taking into account issues such as the extent to which disabled persons use the building and facilities, resources available and size and nature of the business.

We can help you in a practical manner

We have developed a unique and practical disability access assessment approach that addresses the requirements of both the British Standard 8300:2001 and the Approved Document to part M of the Building Regulations.

This approach, coupled with the knowledge and experience of our consultants means that we can ensure your business complies with legislation and best practice at a reasonable cost. We have successfully used this approach for a number of customers in the social housing, construction and telecommunications industries. This keeps the costs down whilst providing value as well as proof that you are doing all that is reasonable as a good employer and provider of services.

We can conduct your access assessments for you or train your nominated staff to use the disability access assessment approach themselves.
