Lawrence is one of the UK's foremost authorities on health & safety specialising in developing management systems within customer organisations. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CFIOSH), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health and a Member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (MFOH). 

Lawrence is a member of the HSE Science Strategy Committee, HSE Horizon Scanning Intelligence Group, Health and Safety Expert Panel of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Council of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, the UK parliament's oldest joint committee (Lords and Commons) which seeks to bring scientists, technologists and politicians together to help develop understanding and policy and Working Well Together Management Committee, the UK campaign for improving health and safety in the construction sector.

Lawrence is also a Past President of IOSH, a member of Council and Chairman of the Communications and International Committee. He was the recipient (jointly) of the 1995 Institution of Civil Engineers medal for Safety in Construction, and in 2005 of the RoSPA Distinguished Service Award and was nominated for the Building Working Well Together Outstanding Safety Achievement Award (2005 and 2006).

Lawrence has always focused on providing high level support for managers and Directors seeking to achieve and maintain world-class health and safety performance. His personal achievements and work are based on the collective effort of Sypol staff - helping modern organisations meet their own aspirations for excellence, so that their health and safety performance contributes to overall business success. 

At present he is on secondment as Head of Health and Safety for the 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), and in his role will head up the health and safety team responsible for ensuring the well-being of thousands of people who will work on building the sporting arenas and other infrastructure facilities necessary to deliver the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  His responsibilities also include ensuring safety is considered not only during the building stages of the project but also in Games and Legacy mode.
